Actor Xolo Maridueña has trilogy dreams for Blue Beetle.

The upcoming DC superhero film will star Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, who stumbles into greatness after coming home from college. Jaime is chosen to become a symbiotic host to the Scarab — an alien relic that grants him a powerful exoskeleton. With his new powers, Jaime becomes the titular hero Blue Beetle.

Maridueña is excited for audiences to see his new movie.

“If we get one movie or a trilogy and f–king fold this into the Justice League s–t, we’re ready for the whole nine,” he told Empire. “For me and Angel [Manuel Soto, director] and the team, we kicked ass with this movie. It just depends on numbers.”

When is the Blue Beetle release date?

Blue Beetle will release on Friday, August 18, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures. It was originally set to be in the DC Extended Universe, but there have been rumors that it may get incorporated into James Gunn‘s new DC Universe.

The film stars Maridueña, George Lopez, Susan Sarandon, and Becky G in a voice role. Maridueña has expressed excitement in portraying the DCEU’s first Latino lead, saying, “The goal was to create a movie for a young me and a young Angel that said, ‘Hey, man, someone who looks like you or comes from a similar background can be a superhero.”
