Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder, video

Zack Snyder kicked off production on his epic sci-fi fantasy movie Rebel Moon back in April, and he announced today that the movie has officially wrapped principal photography. The director took to Vero to commemorate the occasion as well as share a brief video from the set of Rebel Moon.

Thank you to everyone who worked on shooting Rebel Moon,” Zack Snyder wrote on Vero. “I am humbled by your artistry, dedication, your incredible hard work, and your friendship. Without you there would simply be no movie. So again, I thank you! That’s a wrap on principal photography!!!!” The Rebel Moon video shows Bae Donna looking contemplative amidst a field of slow-motion fluff. Classic Snyder.

Rebel Moon takes place on a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy, which is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Belisarius. The desperate colonists dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighbouring planets to help them make a stand. Sofia Boutella will star as the mysterious young woman, with Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Bae Donna, Jena Malone, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Michiel Huisman, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Ed Skrein, Alfonso Herrera, Anthony Hopkins, and more rounding out the cast of Rebel Moon.

The plan is to split Rebel Moon into two epic features, and much like Army of the Dead, there are several potential spin-offs in development should the film do well. Rebel Moon originally began life as a Star Wars pitch a decade ago but has been retooled as an original sci-fi universe. “This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan,” Snyder has previously said. “It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.” Netflix hasn’t given Rebel Moon an official release date yet.
