Batgirl, Leslie Grace

We were all a little shocked when Warner Bros. Discovery revealed that they would be shelving the Batgirl movie starring Leslie Grace. Production had already wrapped, and the film was in the midst of the post-production process, which made it all the more unbelievable. Although rumours swirled as to the quality of Batgirl, the studio released a statement saying that their choice not to release the film reflected on “our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC Universe and HBO Max” and that Leslie Grace “is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection on her performance.” Could there still be a place for Leslie Grace to play Batgirl in a future DC movie?

While the cancellation of Batgirl was a shock to us, the move was a major blow for the cast and crew, but a new report from Variety states that we could see Leslie Grace reprise the role. New Warner Bros. Pictures Group chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy are said to be “seeking to mend fences” with Leslie Grace and are “entertaining the possibility” of having her return as Batgirl in a future DC movie. Variety adds that the choice will likely ultimately be up to whoever ends up overseeing the DC Universe for the studio.

When it was announced that the Batgirl movie wouldn’t be released, Leslie Grace took to Instagram to respond. “On the heels of the recent news about our movie ‘Batgirl,’ I am proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland,” Grace wrote. “I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process! To every Batgirl fan – THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take on the cape and become, as Babs said best, “my own damn hero!” Batgirl for life!” We’ve seen bits and pieces of the movie leaked following the news, so I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of Leslie Grace as Batgirl… one way or another.

Batgirl stars Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon, Brendan Fraser as Firefly, and Michael Keaton as Batman. Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah helmed the movie, which Christina Hodson scripted. Assuming Batgirl stays locked in the vault, would you like to see Leslie Grace reprise the role in a future DC movie?
