Johnny Depp has been spreading his wings to all sorts of projects as of late, and that includes Puffins. An animated spin-off to 2019’s Arcitc DogsPuffins saw Johnny Depp in the esteemed role of Johnny Puff, an arctic bird having adventures with four friends. In the new spin-off Puffins Impossible, the genre shifts to superheroics as Johnny Puff and his friends touch a meteor that grants them extraordinary abilities.

Puffins Impossible is a web series that premieres on April 9 across digital platforms. Consisting of 18 episodes, the team of Tactik, Didi Damage, Megapie, and Mystic will join Johnny Puff in adventures that tackle themes such as gender, racial equality, and environmental protection. Despite that, the official trailer retains the comedy of past Puffins projects, so kids should be enthralled by these powerful polar paladins.

Much like how the Minions and the Penguins of Madagascar spawned from animated films, the Puffins originated in Arctic Dogs. The film, which features the voices of Jeremy Renner, John Cleese, and Alex Baldwin, bombed in theaters but found a global audience on Netflix.

The Puffins have emerged with a life of their own, overtaking the original characters of Arctic Dogs like the Rabbids took over Rayman’s platforming adventures so many years ago. It seems that there is an insatiable audience for armies of cute Minion-type characters, and Johnny Depp and company are filling that endless void with yet another team for children to enjoy.
