Anthony Carrigan says that he’s thrilled to be playing DC hero Metamorpho in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy.
It was announced just yesterday that Anthony Carrigan (Barry) had joined the cast of James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy as Metamorpho and the actor couldn’t be more thrilled.
“I’m gobsmacked,” Anthony Carrigan told Deadline regarding his Metamorpho casting. “I think it’s just such an exciting new chapter, and such an exciting new chapter for DC. I think this movie has the potential to just really knock everyone’s socks off, and with James Gun at the helm, I think it’s just going to be so much fun.” Carrigan continued, “I’m thrilled to be a part of it. I’m honored to be playing this part, and I’m playing a hero. So, on top of everything, that’s pretty rad.“
Anthony Carrigan is best known for playing Chechen gangster NoHo Hank on HBO’s Barry. His work on the final season of the series recently scored him an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. The actor went on to explain the resonance the role of Metamorpho had for him.
I certainly think that at least in the source material, Metamorpho, when he was transformed into his superhero state, I think he was very reluctant to have it because he felt like he was a freak and he felt like he was no longer who he was. I can certainly kind of relate to that, in terms of my alopecia. So, that’s definitely something that I’ll be channeling and am excited to bring to the character itself.”
It was recently announced that Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) had joined the cast to play Guy Gardner, a charismatic and slightly obnoxious member of the Green Lantern Corps, with Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) and Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) signing on to play Hawkgirl and Mister Terrific, respectively. The leading roles of the movie were filled just a few weeks ago, with David Corenswet (Pearl) set to play Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) stepping into the shoes of Lois Lane.
James Gunn will write and direct Superman: Legacy, and he has promised that the tone of the movie will be different from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Co-chair of DC Studios Peter Safran has also teased that Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story and will focus on “Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.” Superman: Legacy will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
