Amiah Miller of the upcoming film My Best Friend’s Exorcism and Bill Heck of Locke & Key are joining previously announced lead Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) in the horror thriller Dust, which will be released as a Hulu Original in the United States. Also in the cast are Annaleigh Ashford (Masters of Sex) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Punisher). Filming is currently underway in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Coming to us from Searchlight Pictures, Dust marks the feature directorial debut of directors William Joines and Karrie Crouse. Crouse wrote the screenplay for the film, which will tell the story of
a woman who is trapped by increasingly perilous dust storms and is haunted by her past encounters with a threatening presence and takes extraordinary measures to protect her family.
Variety adds that the film is set in 1930s Oklahoma.
Alix Madigan and Lucas Joaquin are producing Dust, with Paulson serving as executive producer. Searchlight Production heads DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas are overseeing the project with the company’s Director of Development Zahra Phillips.
My Best Friend’s Exorcism won’t be released through Amazon Prime until September 30th, but Miller’s previous credits include Lights Out, War for the Planet of the Apes, House by the Lake, and The Water Man. If you didn’t catch Heck on Locke & Key, you might have seen him in The Old Man, the I Know What You Did Last Summer TV series, The Alienist, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, or an episode of Sleepy Hollow.
Dust sounds interesting to me, and I find the idea of it being set in 1930s Oklahoma to be appealing. This is the second Depression-era horror project I’ve written about this week, as the movie Queen of Bones is set in 1931 Oregon.
