According to Deadline, Oscar nominees Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson have signed on for lead roles in upcoming crime thriller Lips Like Sugar, set during the 1984 Olympic Games. This marks the latest collaboration between Harrelson and Wilson, who previously starred together in 2013’s animated comedy Free Birds and 2017’s dramedy Lost in London.

Harrelson recently starred in HBO’s limited drama White House Plumbers. He will next be seen in the independent drama film Suncoast and in Apple Studios’ star-studded sci-fi movie Project Artemis. As for Wilson, he’s currently preparing for the upcoming premieres of Loki Season 2 and Disney’s newest film adaptation of Haunted Mansion.

Who’s Involved in Lips Like Sugar?

Inspired by a true story, Lips Like Sugar will be directed and produced by music video director Brantley Guiterrez from a screenplay written by Anthony Tambakis. In addition to starring, the True Detective actor will also serve as producer. Production is scheduled to begin this year, with casting still currently underway.

“The coming-of-age thriller is set against the backdrop of the punk and skate worlds of West Los Angeles,” reads the synopsis. “As the new friendship of two teenage girls from different walks of life unfolds and city officials focus on the Olympics, the lives of two former detectives (Harrelson and Wilson) become intertwined when one of the girls goes missing.”

Lips Like Sugar is produced by Tambakis, Russ Posternak, Kevin Chinoy, Francesca Silvestri, Jeremy Plager, Greg Lauritano, Kyle Schember, Zac Adams, and Anna Schwartz. Executive producers are Tara Craig, Jaykant R. Patel, Rama K. Penta and Raj Penta. It hails from XYZ Films.
