The secret agent has always been a much-sought role in Hollywood, and now it’s Gadot’s time to deal with it. In the upcoming international spy thriller, Gadot — who’s also producing — will portray Rachel Stone, an elite agent who has to do whatever it takes to save the world from the schemes of a mysterious organization. Many details are still under wrap, but it seems Heart of Stone will follow into the steps of the Mission: Impossible- and 007-look-alike franchises. There are many Netflix original movies premiering this year, but Heart of Stone is among the ones fans are looking for the most.

Gadot is coming off her experience as Wonder Woman, but the character’s future seems upended in the James Gunn-led DC Universe. The Israeli actress has joined forces with Netflix for 2021’s action-comedy film Red Notice. Heart of Stone also stars Jamie Dornan, Matthias Schweighöfer, Sophie Okonedo, Jing Lusi, and Paul Ready.

The original story was penned by Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder, with Tom Harper attached to direct. Eisner Award winner Rucka has collaborated with Netflix to adapt his graphic novel series The Old Guard. After the warm reception of the film starring Charlize Theron, Netflix greenlit a sequel.

Heart of Stone hails from Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, with Granger and Goldberg overseeing the project on behalf of the studio. Besides Gadot, the list of producers includes Jaron Varsano, Bonnie Curtis, and Julie Lynn through their Pilot Wave banner, with Harper, Rucka, and Patty Whitcher serving as executive producers.

Heart of Stone is but one of the many movies coming to Netflix in 2023.
