Prime Video has released a teaser trailer for The Power, an adaptation of Naomi Alderman’s 2016 novel of the same name. The basic concept is simple: What if teenage girls were able to electrocute people at will?

The Power is our world, but for one twist of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people at will,” reads the official logline. “The series features a cast of remarkable characters from London to Seattle, Nigeria to Eastern Europe, as the Power evolves from a tingle in teenagers’ collarbones to a complete reversal of the power balance of the world. The Power stars Toni Collette as Mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez, alongside Auli’i Cravalho as Jos Cleary-Lopez, John Leguizamo as Rob Lopez, Toheeb Jimoh as Tunde Ojo, Josh Charles as Daniel Dandon, Eddie Marsan as Bernie Monke, Ria Zmitrowicz as Roxy Monke, Zrinka Cvitešić as Tatiana Moskalev, and Halle Bush as Allie Montgomery.

Naomi Alderman’s The Power won the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction and was also named as one of the 10 Best Books of 2017 by The New York Times. While Alderman has said that she wouldn’t be writing a sequel to the novel, she teased that there’s always room to expand the story for the TV series. “Readers of The Power are already asking me if there’ll be a sequel – there won’t be another novel (probably), but there are definitely so many more stories to tell than I had room for in the book,” Alderman said. “I can’t wait to expand this story – and bring electric women to TV screens around the world.

Toni Collette will next be seen starring in Mafia Mamma, an action-comedy directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) and written by Michael J. Feldman & Debbie Jhoon. Collette stars as an insecure American woman who inherits her grandfather’s mafia empire in Italy. Guided by the firm’s trusted consigliere (Monica Bellucci), she hilariously defies everyone’s expectations, including her own, as the new head of the family business. The film is expected to be released on April 14th.
