The Boys is currently in the midst of its most outrageous season yet, but the first live-action spinoff of the Prime Video series is also shooting right now.
First announced two years ago, The Boys spinoff series will be set at America’s only college for young-adult superheroes, which happens to be run by Vought International. It’s been described as “an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. Part college show, part Hunger Games — with all the heart, satire and raunch of The Boys.” Patrick Schwarzenegger is part of the ensemble cast of the new spinoff and is rumoured to be playing a character named Golden Boy. While speaking with Variety, Schwarzenegger compared the series to the hit HBO series Euphoria, just with superheroes.
This set is really fun, and there’s just a loosey-goosey comedy. It’s kind of like ‘Euphoria’ meets superheroes.
The actor added that he’s shared a few photos from the set with his father, Arnold Schwarzenegger. “He looked at me and he was like, ‘What the fuck are you filming?’” Patrick Schwarzenegger said. “I was like, ‘It’s this show called ‘The Boys.’ … You have to watch an episode to understand it, or else I can’t articulate what happens in it.” Once upon a time, Patrick Schwarzenegger had auditioned to play Homelander. He didn’t get the gig, but the producers kept him in mind and reached out when The Boys spinoff was being developed. He wasn’t allowed to read the script until he was officially cast, but he knew he was going to be in for a good time. “I was like, ‘OK, it’s The Boys. I know it’s going to be something crazy but it’s an amazing show,’” Schwarzenegger said. “And then when I started reading [the scripts] on set, I was like, ‘Oh boy, this is going to be, yeah, this will be fun and interesting.’“
The next episode of The Boys season 3 will drop on Prime Video tomorrow.
