Fans have eagerly anticipating another Dragon’s Dogma entry, a cult hit role-playing game that first released in 2012. Since then, there have been multiple ports and a Netflix animated series, but no sequel. However, that has finally changed since Capcom has announced Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Director Hideaki Itsuno revealed the game through a T-shirt during the celebration stream that Capcom mentioned at its recent showcase. There was only a logo, as it had no gameplay, trailer, or other art associated with the game.

Details are sparse — there was no mention of a release window or platforms — but it will run on Capcom’s popular RE Engine (which stands for “Reach for the Moon” and not “Resident Evil“) that has been used for the last four Resident Evil installments, Monster Hunter Rise, and Devil May Cry 5. Daigo Ikeno and Kenichi Suzuki will also be working on the sequel, who were art director and lead environment artist, respectively, on the first entry.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 hasn’t been confirmed until now, but there was some evidence that it was in production. The game was featured in a leak that targeted Capcom in November 2020. That leak also featured Street Fighter 6 and the Resident Evil 4 remake, two titles that have since been confirmed. Capcom also stated it was looking to the future in a recent tweet, further hinting that something was in the works.

This sequel also could have been in the works much sooner. Itsuno told VG24/7 he was given a choice to either make Devil May Cry 5 or Dragon’s Dogma 2, and he choice the former.
