Photos taken on the set of Joker: Folie a Deux give us our first look at Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn in full makeup.

While it’s not due in theaters until October 2024, Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux has been shooting for a while now, and unofficial photos from the set are revealing Lady Gaga’s final look as Harley Quinn. Given the vibe of Phillips’ movies, the make-up on Gaga’s Harley Quinn is much lower-key and more grounded compared to the stylized look Margot Robbie sported as the character in her DCEU films. Check it out:

Phillips’ Joker sequel is shaping up to be the first film to be released under the new DC Elseworlds label and will be followed a year later by The Batman 2. This label is for those DC projects outside of James Gunn’s new DCU continuity, and it looks like until announced otherwise, Robbie’s Harley Quinn is still the official DC version of the character. That said, anticipation is high for Phillips’ movie, described as quasi-musical and centers around Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, aka The Joker, being treated in Arkham Asylum by Dr. Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn. Zazie Beetz is set to reprise her role as Sophie Drummond, who was the object of Arthur’s affection in the first film, while Brendan Gleeson joins the cast in an undisclosed role.

Given that the first Joker movie won Joaquin Phoenix an Oscar, Gaga’s performance is highly touted, and one can expect a major Oscar campaign for both her and Phoenix if the film turns out as well as expected. Gaga seems like a great choice for the part, with her not only having solid box office bonafides (House of Gucci was a rare adult drama that made money during the pandemic) but also, Phillips was a producer on her breakout A Star is Born remake. Her director/co-star from that film, Bradley Cooper, is a producer here as well.
