Now You See Me sequel

If you’re hungry for more magic, heists, and Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson bickering like an old married couple, well, another Now You See Me sequel is on the way. Deadline has reported that Ruben Fleischer is set to direct the next installment of the Now You See Me franchise for Lionsgate.

In addition to Ruben Fleischer, Lionsgate has also tapped Seth Grahame-Smith to write the Now You See Me sequel. The writer will take over from Eric Warren Singer, who penned the previous draft. In a statement, Fleischer said, “There are three things in this world I absolutely love… Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and magic. To have the chance to work with these two talented actors, as well as rest of the incredible cast of the Now You See Me movies is a dream come true. I am a lifelong fan of heist movies – I love getting drawn in by the twists and the mystery where nothing is what it seems. And that’s even more true when the thieves are magicians – the opportunities are endless.  Eric was able to unlock a fresh and exciting way into a new movie and fun new characters, so I’m excited to dig in even further.” The previous two movies haven’t skimped on the star talent, with Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Daniel Radcliffe, and more putting in appearances. Despite the mixed reviews, the two Now You See Me movies have grossed close to $700 million worldwide.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Nathan Kahane added, “Ruben has proven time and again that he has a special talent with character-driven blockbuster entertainment. He delivers big excitement while ultimately keeping the focus on the characters audiences care about. We feel like we’ve assembled a dream team to get this movie off the ground. For everyone we’ve kept in suspense, the wait is almost over.” Ruben Fleischer most recently directed the Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. Seth Grahame-Smith has been serving as the co-writer and showrunner of the live-action Green Lantern series for HBO Max, which is still “very much alive” despite Warner Bros. Discovery cleaning house at DC Films.

Are you looking forward to another Now You See Me sequel, or has the magic worn off?
