Spider-Man: No Way Home, Lizard, concept art

As we know, Spider-Man: No Way Home featured more than a few blasts from the past. In addition to the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective Spider-Men, the Spider-Man sequel also brought back a handful of villains, including Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Thomas Haden Church as Sandman, and Rhys Ifans as the Lizard.

When it comes to the Lizard, fans have never been happy about how the villain was portrayed in The Amazing Spider-Man. While some thought that his return in Spider-Man: No Way Home would have been the perfect opportunity to fix the design, he wound up largely look the same as he did in the original movie. However, Marvel Studios did once consider making the Lizard a little more comic-accurate for the new film and concept artist Ian Joyner has shared a few images of what he could have looked like.

I think it’s safe to say that Spider-Man fans probably wound have liked to have seen this version of the Lizard, but as the character didn’t wind up having a huge impact on the story this time around, I suppose we can forgive it. Perhaps one day the torn lab coat and purple pants will make a triumphant return.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available on Digital and will be released on Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD on April 12th.
