An epic story is hitting Prime Video this week.

On Tuesday, October 11, the streaming service will add The Northman to its available content. Robert Eggers (The Lighthouse, The Witch) directed the movie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Oscar nominee Sjón (Dancer in the Dark, Lamb). Lars Knudson and Mark Huffam are producing. Set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th Century, The Northman is “an epic revenge thriller that explores how far a Viking prince will go to seek justice for his murdered father.”

The film stars Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies), Golden Globe winner Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit), Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe winner Nicole Kidman (The Hours), Oscar nominees Ethan Hawke (The Good Lord Bird), as well as Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate), Claes Bang (The Square), and Grammy/Oscar-nominated Icelandic singer-songwriter Björk (Dancer in the Dark).

Eggers first gained recognition through his 2015 feature directorial debut The Witch, which is a horror period film that received critical and commercial success. He followed this up with 2019’s psychological thriller The Lighthouse starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe.
