A new G.I. Joe movie is reportedly in the works following 2021’s Snake Eyes, according to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Will there be a new G.I. Joe movie?

Speaking to Collider, di Bonaventura revealed that he and others had attempted to develop a television series based on the property with Amazon and Paramount. However, it didn’t pan out and the project fizzled.

Now, the producer says they’re looking at what they can do at the movies.

“We actually developed a pilot with Amazon. This was before Paramount+, just as Paramount+ was coming in,” said di Bonaventura. “It didn’t pan out. We are in a lot of conversations about what to do with it as a film, and so I would have to say, most likely you’re going to see that come to fruition. How soon is always impossible to say. For a long time, there were no active conversations. There’s a lot going on right now.”

Paramount’s efforts take G.I. Joe to Hollywood has a mixed history. In 2009, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra released, starring Channing Tatum, Dennis Quaid, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rachel Nichols, Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sienna Miller, Jonathan Pryce, and more. A sequel film, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, starring Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, and Tatum, was released in 2013, mostly to negative reviews.

In 2021, efforts to reboot the film series began with the release of Snake Eyes. However, that film also received mostly negative reviews. After a poor box office performance, it’s unclear what the future holds for the Real American Hero’s silver screen aspirations.
