According to Vanity Fair, Nathan Fillion (The Rookie), Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold), and Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) have signed on to appear in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.

Nathan Fillion is set to play Guy Gardner, a charismatic and slightly obnoxious member of the Green Lantern Corps, with Isabela Merced playing Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. The leading roles of the movie were filled just two weeks ago, with David Corenswet (Pearl) set to play Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) stepping into the shoes of Lois Lane. With members of The Authority also said to be making their first appearance in Superman: Legacy, the film is shaping up to be rather packed with heroes.

Nathan Fillion has worked with James Gunn on many occasions, so it’s no surprise that he’s brought the actor over to join his new DC Universe with Superman: Legacy. The James Gunn projects in which Nathan Fillion has appeared include Slither, Super, The Suicide Squad, and more, as well as the recent Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn confirmed the news himself on Twitter.

The first chapter of the new DC Universe will include movies and TV projects, with the same actors expected to play the roles regardless of the medium. One of those TV projects includes Lanterns, which will feature John Stewart and Hal Jordan as they uncover a dark mystery. It’s not hard to imagine Guy Gardner putting in an appearance in that series.

James Gunn will write and direct Superman: Legacy, and he has promised that the tone of the movie will be different from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Co-chair of DC Studios Peter Safran has also teased that Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story and will focus on “Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.Superman: Legacy will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
