The Batman, Mortal Kombat, HBO Max, streaming

There is no denying that The Batman had a strong first week streaming on HBO Max, and it even topped all DC titles that have been released in that regard. That being said, the Caped Crusader came up a bit short to top Mortal Kombat in that regard as the 2021 video game adaptation is still the top movie release on HBO Max in first-week viewership.

The Batman scored 4.1 million U.S. households in its first week streaming on HBO Max, per Samba TV, while Mortal Kombat hit 4.3 million U.S. households in its first week. Mortal Kombat was one of the few day-and-date releases from Warner Bros. that actually worked both at home and in theaters. On the theatrical front, the film did decent business, grossing $42.3 million domestically and $83.7 million globally on a $55 million budget. You can check out Samba TV’s viewership chart below!

The Batman is the biggest DC film on the platform in terms of first-week views. Its 4.1 million start came out ahead of The Suicide Squad, which registered 3.5 million U.S. households in its first week. That film is followed closely by Wonder Woman 1984 which pulled in 3.2 million U.S. households when it was released on the platform and theatrically during the Christmas holiday of 2020. You can check out that chart below!

The Batman has seen a very successful theatrical and streaming run so far. To date, the film has grossed $367.7 million domestically and $759.2 million worldwide, easily making it the highest-grossing movie of the year so far. During their presentation at CinemaCon last night, Warner Bros. also made it official that Robert Pattinson will be back for a sequel to the film while director Matt Reeves will be back to helm the project and pen the movie’s screenplay.

Are YOU surprised Mortal Kombat is still the top streaming title on HBO Max in terms of first-week views?
