Vault director Tom DeNucci’s new film Johnny & Clyde was first announced as being a crime thriller, and in the new Deadline report that the film has landed a distribution deal with Redbox, it’s still being referred to as an “action crime” movie. But we’ve previously heard that it actually shifts gears to become a “balls-to-the-wall slasher/horror” flick, so we’re really looking forward to checking out Johnny & Clyde when it gets released into the world. According to Deadline, the film will get a theatrical release later this year, and will be available day-and-date in Redbox kiosks and on VOD.
Scripted by DeNucci and Nick Principe, Johnny & Clyde follows
the two eponymous serial killers who are madly in love and on an endless crime spree. They have their sights set on robbing a prosperous casino run by crime boss Alana and her head of security.
The film stars Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap), Ajani Russell (Betty), Tyson Ritter (Preacher), Megan Fox (Jennifer’s Body), Vanessa Angel (Kingpin), Bai Ling (The Crow), Robert LaSardo (The Mule), Armen Garo (The Departed), Sean Ringgold (American Gangster), Nick Principe (Laid to Rest), Brett Azar (Young Rock), Sydney Jenkins (Don’t Look Up), and Charles W. Harris III (Glass).
Fox’s character Alana has been described as “the devil’s daughter” and a “messed up, very dark, twisted version of a Disney princess”. You can take a look at the first official image of Alana at the bottom of this article.
Robbing Alana’s casino turns out to be a terrible idea when she traps Johnny, Clyde, and their associates in the cash room and unleashes a masked supernatural slasher on them. Principe, who is best known for playing the slasher ChromeSkull in the Laid to Rest movies, pulls double duty in this film, playing Johnny and Clyde’s cohort Butcher as well as the masked slasher.
Johnny & Clyde was produced by Chad A. Verdi, Michelle Verdi, Chad A. Verdi Jr, Paul Luba, and Nick Koskoff. Andre Relis, David Gere, J.D. Beaufils, Jessica Bennett, Mickey Guerin, Anthony Gudas, and Chelsea Vale served as executive producers. Amy Lippens, Matthew J. Weiss, and Ali Cesare are co-producers.
Redbox CEO Galen Smith provided the following statement:
Fans of dark, gritty action movies are going to love Johnny & Clyde. Tom has created a film that will have fans on the edge of their seats. We’re looking forward to releasing the film later this year.”
Chad A. Verdi added:
This film will keep fans engaged from beginning till the end. A true thriller with a twist of humor.”
I’m really looking forward to seeing this masked supernatural slasher that they’re keeping hidden so far.
