In a recent interview with Comic Book, Emmy nominee Mckenna Grace has officially confirmed her return as Phoebe in Sony Pictures’ upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel. Grace went on to share her excitement about coming back to the franchise by revealing that she’s constantly trying to get information from director Jason Reitman about where’s the sequel’s story headed.

“I’m constantly pressuring Jason Reitman, our director. I’m always trying to figure out what the story is,” Grace said “I literally have no ounce of a clue what the story is. If I knew about a Marvel film or if I knew about Ghostbusters, I’d be sitting here and I’d be like, ‘I have no clue, and it’s driving me nuts.’ I’m just excited to do a second one. I’m just excited to be Phoebe.”

Described as “the next chapter in the Spengler family story,” the upcoming sequel will once again be directed by Jason Reitman from a screenplay he is co-writing with Kenan. It’s still unclear if all of the Afterlife cast and the legacy characters would be returning or not.

It was previously confirmed that Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel will officially be heading back to New York City, the franchise’s original setting. It is also expected to take place in the Firehouse headquarters that has been prominently featured in the first two Ghostbusters films as well as in Paul Feig’s reboot.

The film is currently slated to arrive in theaters on December 20, 2023.

The 2021 film earned a worldwide gross of more than $200 million at the box office. starred Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Paul Rudd. It also featured the return of franchise stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts.
