Now that Moon Knight has wrapped its first season on Disney+, Marvel has released a detailed look into Marc Spector’s significant other Layla El-Faouly and her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The latest Marvel 101 video explains her backstory and details El-Faouly’s bigger moments in the show, including some spoilerific reveals from the final episode.

Layla is an MCU original creation, although she’s heavily based on the comic character Marlene Alraune. She’s a capable adventurer who pairs well with Marc and his various other personalities, and the backstory concerning her archaeologist father is also basically taken from the original source material.

Moon Knight itself is the most self-contained MCU project to date, featuring no ties to other Disney+ shows or Marvel films. Although that wasn’t originally by design, as it had a couple cameos planned that were then cut.

According to Deadline, even though it is implied at the end of the first season, it’s not currently known if there will be another season of Moon Knight. However, it’s possible that the current fist of Khonshu will be lurking in the MCU Halloween special, which will reportedly dig deep into Werewolf by Night, Elsa Bloodstone, and other supernatural heroes from throughout Marvel’s canon, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. The links are somewhat there, as one of the episodes of Moon Knight had a direct reference to Werewolf by Night.
