Margot Robbie, Lady Gaga, Joker, Harley Quinn

While it remains to be seen if we’ve seen the last of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, another actress will be stepping into the role for the upcoming Joker sequel. It’s expected that Lady Gaga will be playing Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux, and Margot Robbie couldn’t be happier.

While speaking with MTV News, Margot Robbie said that she’d be “so happy” if Lady Gaga does end up playing Harley Quinn in the Joker sequel. “It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning is all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters,” Robbie said, “the way, like, Macbeth or Batman always gets passed, you know, from great actor to great actor.” Robbie continued, “It’s kind of like someone gets to do their Batman, or someone gets to do their Macbeth or someone, you know? And I feel like in not so many cases are there female characters.” The actress added that “It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing. I think she’ll do something incredible with it.

Joker: Folie à Deux and will once again find Joaquin Phoenix playing the role of Arthur Fleck. In addition to Phoenix and Lady Gaga, the Joker sequel will also feature Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Zazie Beetz. Todd Phillips will return to direct Joker: Folie à Deux from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, and production is expected to kick off this December. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it’s been said that much of it will take place within Arkham Asylum, which is where we left Arthur in the last film. It’s also believed that the film will have musical elements, which I’m quite excited to see play out. Joker: Folie à Deux is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2024.
