You can’t keep Glen Powell out of the skies. The actor starred alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, and he’s back in the cockpit to join Jonathan Majors in Devotion. This aerial war epic that tells the harrowing true story of two elite US Navy fighter pilots during the Korean War. Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for Devotion, which you can check out above!

Based on the book by Adam Makos, Devotion was directed by JD Dillard and written by Jake Crane & Jonathan A.H. Stewart. The story hit close to home for Dillard, whose father was a Naval aviator. The director told Vanity Fair earlier this year that many of his early memories include hanging out in airplane hangers and watching his father fly. “It’s always kind of stayed with me, and it’s been such a part of his identity,” Dillard said. There was a time when Dillard thought he would become a pilot, but he wound up moving towards filmmaking. With his father looking over his shoulder, Dillard knew he had to get everything right.

My dad has been nudging me in the ribs for 30-some-odd years while we watch movies saying, ‘Oh, that’s not how planes move. That’s not how it works. That’s not what they say.’

While audiences won’t see Devotion until later this year, Dillard said that his dad “loves it” but added that he’s “also bracing myself for the probability that I’ll never make anything that he will like as much as this.” Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell play Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner, respectively, and their heroic sacrifices would ultimately make them the Navy’s most celebrated wingmen. Powell can currently be seen in Top Gun: Maverick, while Majors will next be seen as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17, 2023. Devotion will hit theaters on November 23, 2022.
