Four years have gone by since the Conjuring Universe entry The Nun (which you can get HERE), earned $365 million at the global box office on a budget of $22 million, and it’s been nearly that long since The Nun 2 was announced. Now the Nun sequel is finally filming in France, and producer James Wan has confirmed the start of production by sharing a behind-the-scenes image on social media! You can see this image, which features a clapperboard with the title on it (and an unidentified cast member), at the bottom of this article.

Scheduled to reach theatres on September 8, 2023, The Nun 2 is being directed by Michael Chaves (The Curse of La LloronaThe Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant). The writing duo of Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing (The Autopsy of Jane Doe) also contributed to the script. The film has the following synopsis:

1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit THE NUN follows SISTER IRENE as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force VALAK – THE DEMON NUN

Taissa Farmiga and Bonnie Aarons are reprising the roles of Sister Irene and Valak / The Nun from the first film, and are joined in the cast by Storm Reid (Euphoria).

James Wan and Peter Safran are producing The Nun 2 through their Atomic Monster and The Safran Company banners. Filming on the sequel is expected to last until sometime in December.

Are you looking forward to The Nun 2? Let us know by leaving a comment below. I can’t say I was a fan of The Nun the first time around, so I’m hoping this follow-up will be an improvement over its predecessor.
