Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, James Mangold, rumor, reshoot

When James Mangold signed on to direct the next Indiana Jones movie, he knew the job would come with absurd expectations. Pressure is part-and-parcel with any tentpole property. Still, Indiana Jones is one of cinema’s most beloved adventurers, and fans are likely to eat anyone alive who fails the character on any level. Especially after the disastrous fourth film in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Still, Mangold is only about to take rumors about his new movie seriously if they threaten the project’s integrity and the efforts of his hard-working cast and crew. Hence the director’s latest tweet dispels rumors about reshoots, alternative endings, and more.

“So I took a b-day break from trolls. But it seems I gotta once again say.. We’re not shooting & never shot any new scenes or “alt endings.” Our film is 99% finished, getting rated by MPAA & VFX being completed. Happy Holidays!,” Mangold tweeted Sunday evening.

Firstly, happy belated birthday, Mr. Mangold! Second, never read the comments, James! The internet can be a wonderful place, but it’s also a shitstorm of cruelty, misinformation, and fear-mongering. People, even fans, will jump to conclusions about anything. Especially when talking about things they love. I don’t understand it; I report on it.

According to Mangold, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is 99% finished and is in the process of getting rated by the MPAA, with VFX being polished. This news means Indy 5 is nearly complete, and the promotional campaign can soon kick into overdrive. Mangold seems confident the film will please even the most hardcore fans, and for his sake (and mine), I hope he’s right.

This news comes after Mangold set the record straight about Helena, the goddaughter of Indiana Jones. Played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Helena is not replacing Indiana Jones as the franchise’s new protagonist. She’s a new and exciting addition to the series alongside other characters played by Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, and Mads Mikkelsen. Additionally, Harrison Ford squashed rumors about Waller-Bridge replacing him on the Today show by saying, “When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy.”

There you have it, folks. There are no reshoots or alternative endings for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. What you see is what you get when the film swings into theaters on June 30, 2023.
