Deadpool 3, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Deadpool, Wolverine

At long last, Wolverine and Deadpool will be seen on the big screen as played by Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, but their relationship won’t be all sunshine and unicorn farts. While speaking with Empire Podcast, Jackman teased the love/hate relationship between the two mutants in Deadpool 3.

How do I categorize it? Ten being really close, zero being the reality, we’re zero, we’re opposites, hate each other,” Hugh Jackman said. “I’m just talking from my perspective, [Logan’s] frustrated by him, wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head. Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot.” As Jackman had announced that he would be hanging up the claws after Logan, it was certainly a pleasant surprise when it was announced that he would return for Deadpool 3. But will this be the last outing for Jackman… again?

I imagine every movie as a one and done, that’s how I see it. I’ll be honest, I had a two picture deal at the beginning, but I still assumed it was a one and done. You know, back then there were no comic book movies, so I just take it one at a time. I’m lucky that way, I don’t have to think beyond that, but I think it’s the best way to go.

Production on Deadpool 3 is expected to kick off next spring under the direction of Shawn Levy, who teased that the sequel will continue the R-rated, hardcore violence of the first two movies. “We are writing, rewriting, developing, prepping Deadpool every day now,” Levy said. “It is such a blast to laugh every day. It is so delicious to hear and write and come up with these scenes where people are just talking foul. And the violence is in your face and hardcore, and it’s very much a Deadpool movie. And it has Logan in it. And it has Wolverine in it. It’s too fun. I’m having so much fun, and I haven’t even hit the shooting floor yet. […] I have to say, developing a Deadpool movie is one of the most fun creative experiences of my life because it’s not just that it’s rated R. It’s that it’s so filled with self-awareness, and that makes in-writing very, very fun in a way that is unique to that franchise.

Oh my God, I’m thrilled,” Ryan Reynolds said of Hugh Jackman returning for Deadpool 3. “It’s like old home week. To get to be on set with one of my closest friends each and every day is a dream come true. But to do it with these two iconic characters side by side, that’s beyond our wildest dreams.Deadpool 3, or The Wolverine Show featuring Deadpool, is set to hit theaters on November 8, 2024.
