Deadpool 3 may not see its May release as the Marvel sequel has been pulled from Disney’s upcoming schedule.

Deadpool 3, release delay

We may have to wait a little longer for the release of Deadpool 3. The sequel, which will find the titular character officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was slated for a May 3, 2024 release, but it appears that the film has been removed from Disney’s schedule.

Disney released its latest quarterly earnings report which includes a list of upcoming theatrical movies, but there’s no sign of Deadpool 3. The full list can be seen below.

  • A Haunting in Venice – September 15, 2023
  • The Creator – September 29, 2023
  • The Marvels – November 10, 2023
  • Next Goal Wins – November 17, 2023
  • Wish– November 22, 2023
  • The Bikeriders – December 1, 2023
  • Magazine Dreams – December 8, 2023
  • Poor Things– December 8, 2023
  • All of Us Strangers – December 22, 2023
  • Elio – March 1, 2024
  • Snow White – March 22, 2024
  • Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes – May 24, 2024
  • Inside Out 2 – June 14, 2024

Deadpool 3 had originally been set to hit theaters on November 8, 2024, but was bumped up to May two months ago. Production on Deadpool 3 has been halted due to the SAG strike, so perhaps Disney is playing it safe and ensuring that they will have enough time to complete the movie once a deal is reached.

In addition to Ryan Reynolds, the upcoming Deadpool sequel will see the return of Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Rob Delaney as Peter. Deadpool 3 will also star Emma Corrin, who is expected to play the villain, and Matthew Macfadyen in an undisclosed role.

The biggest addition to the Deadpool 3 cast is Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, who finally broke down after being pestered by Ryan Reynolds for so many years. Reynolds said that the sequel will present a new challenge for Jackman. “I think [Jackman] was excited and what we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind,” Reynolds said, “that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.” Clearly, all that pestering paid off. “I mean, I never stopped,” Reynolds said. “I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years. I actually just think… I believe in timing … and I think he was ready.

At the moment, Deadpool 3 doesn’t seem to have an official release date, but I’d imagine that it’s still on track for a 2024 release, but perhaps just a little further down the road.
