John Cusack offered up a story of corporate greed that he says is a continuous problem in the movie industry.

John Cusack

From boombox to soapbox, John Cusack has taken to Twitter to pull the curtain back on Fox, saying he discovered by accident that they pulled an “accounting trick” in order to claim a serious financial loss on Cameron Crowe’s seminal teen movie Say Anything…

With the SAG-AFTRA strike underway, many now-unemployed actors are voicing their disdain for studios and producers. On the same day the strike started, John Cusack went on the attack: “Never expected to see any money – but the film became quite famous –  so  about 10 years ago – I looked again at the  financial  statements they were  obligated to report – and to my shock – they claimed they had LOST 44 million dollars  on the film – I thought wow , I almost bankrupted Fox! ( not really ) The film cost about 13 million to make – and money spent to release was minimal at the time – 30 years in – that film lost millions every year !” This comes off the heels of SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher addressing the issue. “They plead poverty, that they’re losing money left and right, when giving hundreds of millions of dollars to their CEOs. It is disgusting – shame on them.”

Responding to one follower’s question of how a major studio could “cook the books” like that, John Cusack simply wrote, “It’s like that”. Earlier in the day, he replied to another concerned fan saying accounting in the film industry is “Corrupt as f*ck”.

Certainly John Cusack’s story of Fox claiming an absurd $44 million loss on Say Anything… won’t be the last time we hear from an actor blasting corporate corruption. Oh, would you look at that – Cusack has another “dirty little secret”, this one about studio and producer greed in the television field. “Some not all – but many many of the creators /show runners /producers  are paid off to be in on the hustle – they are just as bad as the worst caricatures mogul executives – Some producers and writers creators in the guild are f*cking over Actors and writers in league with the studios Those are the facts”.
