Faithfulness is often a key concern for fans when a series is being adapted into another medium. Some of the creators from the Fallout games recently expressed how the Prime Video show was going to nail the feeling of the game series in a short video that included a cheeky cameo from someone in power armor.

Art Director Ishvan Pely said that he was “blown away” with how much the television show has stuck to Bethesda’s original designs. He noted it was reassuring to see and that it reinforced that Bethesda was “correct” in its approach to the series.

Executive Producer Todd Howard talked about how Bethesda had been approached from those in the film industry saying Fallout would make for a good movie. However, Howard said it was never the right fit. He said he fantasized about getting Jonathan Nolan to do it and brought it up when they connected. Nolan apparently said he was a big fan of the series.

Nolan himself, after pretending to not know what Fallout was while getting handed a soda from a person wearing power armor, explained how he fell into the series as a whole.

“Several years ago I decided I was going to write the next great American novel, and then a friend gave me a copy of Fallout 3 and now I’m working in television,” he said.

Fallout takes place in the 1940s after a nuclear war and the television series will feature Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner as showrunners. Robertson-Dworet has writing credits on Captain Marvel and the 2018 Tomb Raider film, while Wagner has experience as an executive producer on PortlandiaSilicon Valley, and Baskets. Jonathan Nolan is set to direct the premiere. Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, Aaron Moten, Ella Purnell, and Walton Goggins have all been confirmed for the show.

The Fallout series was launched in 1997 on PC by Interplay Productions. However, its popularity ballooned in 2008 after Bethesda released Fallout 3 for consoles and PC, which gave it an ambitious action spin similar to its The Elder Scrolls fantasy games. Since then, Fallout 4, the multiplayer-focused Fallout 76, and a mobile title Fallout Shelter have been released.

Fallout marks yet another fantasy or sci-fi series for the streaming giant. The company already has shows coming from The Lord of the RingsBlade Runner, and Mass Effect, an initiative that came out of The Wheel of Time‘s historic debut on Prime Video.
