Early box office projections for Blue Beetle do not look promising.

This upcoming DC superhero movie will introduce a DC Universe (DCU) character as the protagonist. “After Jaime Reyes graduates from college and returns to his hometown Palmera City, he is chosen to become a symbiotic host to the Scarab, an ancient alien biotechnological relic that grants him a powerful exoskeleton armor, turning him into the superhero Blue Beetle,” reads the official synopsis.

Blue Beetle is currently tracking to earn $12-17 million in its domestic opening weekend box office. This would be very low for the superhero movie. As a point of comparison to other DC movies from this year, The Flash earned $55 million in its domestic opening and Shazam: Fury of the Gods earned just over $30 million.

Since both previous DC movies from this year were considered box office bombs, this is not a promising look for the studio, especially as the budget is $120 million.

What is the Blue Beetle release date?

The movie will release on August 18, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures.

The film stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle, with a supporting cast including Susan Sarandon, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, and Becky G.
