MAJOR SPOILERS for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Consider yourself warned. The Doctor Strange sequel was released last week and in keeping with Marvel tradition, the film did feature a post-credit scene. The scene in question introduced a character well known to Marvel fans, and the actor has revealed the first official look at their character.

If you’re still with us, you either already know, or don’t care, that the post-credit scene in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced Charlize Theron as Clea, a powerful sorceress who comes to Earth to enlist the aid of Doctor Strange. The role was played by Charlize Theron, who took to social media to share the first official looks at her character.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Charlize Theron, Clea

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron told Deadline’s Hero Nation podcast that they always wanted to introduce Clea to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “In the comics you could say [that Clea is] the great love of Doctor Strange, but really in a lot of ways is his formidable equal as a sorcerer herself,” Waldron said. “Her backstory is fascinating. She’s the niece of Dormammu, the giant floating head from the first movie. And so, they have a lot of great adventures in the comics, and we knew we wanted to introduce her, but it felt like we had to close the book to some extent on his love story with Christine Palmer, Rachel McAdams’ character.” Charlize Theron is a major star, so Marvel obviously has some big plans for the character. It remains to be seen just when Clea will appear in the MCU again, but the post-credit scene could be setting the stage for Doctor Strange 3.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in theaters, so be sure to check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray and let us know what you thought of the film as well.
