Guessing who is behind the Ghostface masks is one of the most fun parts of the Scream movies. Sometimes it’s the boyfriend or the freaky Tarantino film student or a jealous relative. Those are gimmes–but you never expect it to be the daycare worker.
Five women are being charged with crimes related to numerous incidents involving frightening children while wearing Screams-style masks. Four are charged with three counts of felony child abuse, while the fifth is charged with neglecting to report abuse.
In the viral videos, the five perpetrators are seen scaring and screaming at students while wearing the Scream masks. The videos were reportedly filmed in September and October, although the owner of the Mississippi daycare claims to have been unaware of the videos. Once it was brought to her attention, the individuals were shown the door. “The people that did those acts are no longer with us. They were fired. I wasn’t here at the time and wasn’t aware they were doing that. I don’t condone that and never have. I just want to say it’s been taken care of.” That’s going to be one awkward back to school night.
Students have gone through plenty in the past couple years, with virtual learning due to the pandemic certainly slowing down the learning process and increasing stress levels. The last thing they need now that they’re in the classroom is a knockoff Ghostface coming at them.
Most headlines are attributing the mask to the one depicted in the Scream movies. However, the videos clearly show these are not quite Ghostface but rather knockoffs. But we all know that those that work with children are grossly underpaid…
Unfortunately, this is not some demented viral marketing for the next installment in the Scream franchise, even though Scream 6 is scheduled to come out next year.
