Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens has replaced Justin Roiland as the voice of Korvo on Hulu’s Solar Opposites animated series.
When it was revealed that Hulu would be recasting the voice of Korvo on Solar Opposites after firing Justin Roiland, I think fans assumed that the replacement might sound similar… but Hulu is going in a very different direction. THR announced today that Dan Stevens, yes, that Dan Stevens, has been tapped to voice Korvo on Solar Opposites.
Hulu also released a Solar Opposites first-look video of Dan Stevens in the role, which includes a rather simple explanation of why Korvo’s voice is so different.
Solar Opposites was created by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan and centers around a group of aliens who crash land in suburban America after fleeing their exploding home world. In between adjusting to life on Earth, Korvo (originally voiced by Justin Roiland and now voiced by Dan Stevens), Terry (Thomas Middleditch), Jesse (Mary Mack), and Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) must protect Pupa, a living super-computer who will one day evolve into its true form and terraform the Earth.
Adult Swim and Hulu ended their association with Justin Roiland after the actor was charged with felony domestic abuse. Those charges were dismissed in March. “This case was dismissed as a result of insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt,” said Orange County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Kimberly Edds.
Justin Roiland took to social media to comment on the charges against him being dismissed. “I have always known that these claims were false — and I never had any doubt that this day would come,” Roiland said. “I’m thankful that this case has been dismissed but, at the same time, I’m still deeply shaken by the horrible lies that were reported about me during this process. Most of all, I’m disappointed that so many people were so quick to judge without knowing the facts.”
The fourth season of Solar Opposites will debut on Hulu on August 14th. The series has already been renewed for a fifth season, meaning we’ve got plenty more of British Korvo to look forward to.
