Good Grief, Dan Levy, Ruth Negga, Luke Evans, Himesh Patel

Schitt’s Creek star and co-creator Dan Levy is partnering with Netflix for Good Grief, marking his feature directorial debut. Cast announcements are making the rounds today with word that Oscar nominee Ruth Negga (PreacherAd AstraLoving), Himesh Patel (YesterdayTenetDon’t Look Up), and Luke Evans (Dracula UntoldBeauty and the BeastThe Alienist) will star alongside Celia Imrie (Love SarahBetter Things), Arnaud Valois (Spring BlossomMoloch), and Jamael Westman (AnimalsIdenticals).

In addition to his role behind the camera, Levy wrote the script. Good Grief is Levy’s first project for Netflix through his Not A Real Production Company banner.

Levy’s script for Good Grief revolves around Marc Dreyfus, a man looking to distract himself from losing his mom with a comfortable marriage. However, after Marc’s husband dies unexpectedly, it sends Marc into a spiral of grief he’s been trying to avoid. Alongside two of his closest friends, Marc escapes on a Parisian weekend of self-discovery and healing.

“Good Grief is a cautionary tale about friendship and loss and all the mess that comes with it when the truth is something you’ve evaded for most of your life. It’s funny, it’s bittersweet, it’s a project that has helped me work through my own grief. And I hope it does the same for other people as well, “ Levy said about the film.

Daniel Levy and Eugene Levy co-created Schitt’s Creek, the multi-award-winning Canadian comedy series about a well-to-do family forced to live in a backwater town after going bankrupt. Levy plays David Rose in the series, a spoiled and persnickety sort who learns the value of genuine friendship, hard work, and true love throughout his time in Schitt’s Creek. Fans of the show have been waiting for Levy to announce another big project since Schitt’s Creek ended in April 2020 of its own accord.

Schitt’s Creek is one of my favorite series ever, and I will see anything Levy is involved with making. I love the idea of him getting behind the camera for Good Grief, which sounds like an emotional roller coaster. Bring it on!
