Community movie, Dan Harmon

We’re here today with yet another update on the status of the prophecized Community movie, but series creator Dan Harmon seems to think it’s now only a matter of when, not if.

Community cast member Alison Brie recently said that “legitimate conversations” are underway to bring the Community movie to life, something Dan Harmon confirmed while speaking with The Wrap.

I’ll confirm what Alison said which is that legitimacy is here, conversations and agreements are happening. There’s a story – who knows if we’ll end up sticking to it, but it was something we had to compile in order to take it out and court various venues. And now negotiations happen.

Before Community fans start taking to the streets in celebrations, Dan Harmon said that this doesn’t mean that the movie will happen anytime soon. “When you put the percentage chances together it’s like you have to account for maybe the world blowing up or another virus happening,” Harmon said. “But as far as the industry is concerned, this is a matter of when and not if, for sure.Community premiered in 2009, where it aired on NBC for five seasons under the constant threat of cancellation before it was finally axed. Yahoo! came to the rescue on the day that the cast’s contracts were set to expire and ordered a 13-episode sixth season, almost fulfilling the “six seasons and a movie” mantra.

The cast of Community, including Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, and Donald Glover, reunited for a virtual table-read of an episode in 2020. Dan Harmon seems pretty confident that the Community movie will happen, what do you think?
