Star Wars, Damon Lindelof, Sequel Trilogy

It was reported over the weekend that Damon Lindelof was writing a new Star Wars movie which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel), and now THR has a few more details to share.

Sources told THR that the new Star Wars movie would take place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. They add that although it won’t be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga, it could feature some of the characters who appeared in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker. There are plenty of characters who were underused in the Sequel Trilogy, even some of the main ones, so this could prove a great opportunity to revisit them.

The original report stated that Damon Lindelof was working on the Star Wars project with an unnamed writer, and according to THR, that writer is Justin Britt-Gibson. The writer worked as an executive story editor on The Strain, Guillermo del Toro’s vampire series, and also wrote episodes of Banshee, Into the Badlands, and Counterpart. Britt-Gibson was also part of a secret Star Wars writer’s room that gathered after the Star Wars Celebration in May. Those who took part in the writer’s room included Patrick Somerville (Station Eleven), Rayna McClendon (Willow), Andy Greenwald (Briarpatch), and more. THR added that Dave Filoni may have been involved as well.

Sources say that this new Star Wars project was originally developed as a standalone movie, but it could lead to further sequels if it does well. Following the release of The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm has been devoting much of their attention to a variety of Star Wars TV series, including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor, but it’s clear they have major plans for the franchise’s return to the big screen as well.

Which Sequel Trilogy characters would you like to see reappear in the Damon Lindelof Star Wars project?
