A little Friday morning surprise to get us into the weekend. Netflix has released the trailer for season 5 of Cobra Kai and with its release, we’re also seeing that the streamer is premiering the series a little earlier than normal this year.

This footage was actually first shown at the Cobra Kai: Live & Bad Ass event before it landed online. The event was a part of the Netflix Is a Joke: The Festival in Los Angeles. The big surprise from the footage was the reveal of the premiere date. Cobra Kai usually debuts at the very end of the year but this season will drop on September 9, 2022, which should make fans very happy.

Season five picks up immediately after the conclusion of last season which saw John Kreese (Martin Kove) in jail and framed for assault. His friend who quickly turned foe, Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), is taking advantage of Kreese’s absence by overhauling and expanding the Cobra Kai karate. Meanwhile, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) join forces to help bring down Terry once and for all. In the midst of all of this, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and his son, Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) are off on a mission to look for Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), who went off to look for his biological father in Mexico.

Cobra Kai takes place over 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, continuing the inescapable conflict between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). The third season found everyone reeling in the aftermath of the violent high school brawl between their dojos, which has left Miguel in a precarious condition. While Daniel searches for answers in his past and Johnny seeks redemption, Kreese further manipulates his vulnerable students with his own vision of dominance. The soul of the Valley is at stake, and the fate of every student and sensei hangs in the balance. The series also stars Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Decenzo, Vanessa Rubio, Peyton List, Thomas Ian Griffith, Dallas Dupree Young, Oona O’Brien, Griffin Santopietro, and Martin Kove.

Did YOU like the new teaser? Season five of Cobra Kai premieres on September 9, 2022.
