The release of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is just a month away and Paramount+ has released a new trailer that shows off the bold new crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

I love Star Trek in all its forms, including the newest iterations of the series, but I am particularly looking forward to Strange New Worlds. It’s been said that the series will tell more episodic stories than Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, and I’m definitely ready for that after the far more serialized stories of those other shows. The Strange New Worlds trailer gives a taste of the series, which seems like it will have room for lighter fare, even while Captain Pike struggles with the foreknowledge of a horrific accident that will leave him trapped in his body.

Strange New Worlds stars Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike alongside Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley, Ethan Peck as Spock, Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga, Jess Bush as Christine Chapel, Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas, Bruce Horak as Hemmer, and Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh. The series has already been renewed for a second season which is currently in production. We recently got a major peek into the new season as it was announced that Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries) would appear as Captain James T. Kirk.

The official synopsis for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds:

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The series will feature fan favorites from season two of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY: Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will debut on Paramount+ on May 5, 2022.
