Charlize Theron responded to rumors of the legendary actress getting a facelift, joking that she’s simply getting older.

Theron wants to help break up double standards on aging

In a recent interview with Allure, Theron was asked about having her aging process be documented due to her fame. The actress — who has been one of the faces of Dior since 2004 — said that she loves her face is “changing and aging,” and then pushed back against rumors that she’s been having plastic surgery.

“My face is changing, and I love that my face is changing and aging,” Theron said. But “people think I had a facelift. They’re like, ‘What did she do to her face?’ I’m like, ‘B—-, I’m just aging! It doesn’t mean I got bad plastic surgery. This is just what happens.’”

Theron went on to criticize what she says are double standards in how men and women are discussed as they age. To Theron, she despises the concept of women aging poorly while men age well.

“I’ve always had issues with the fact that men kind of age like fine wines and women like cut flowers,” said Theron. “I despise that concept and I want to fight against it, but I also think women want to age in a way that feels right to them. I think we need to be a little bit more empathetic to how we all go through our journey. My journey of having to see my face on a billboard is quite funny now.”

Theron most recently appeared in 2023’s Fast X, and will next appear in The Old Guard 2, a sequel to 2020’s superhero film which starred Theron as a member of a team of immortal mercenaries.
