Bijou Phillips has filed for divorce from husband Danny Masterson following the actor’s sentencing to 30 years to life in prison for the rapes of two women.

Phillips remains committed to her daughter, according to statement

The filing was submitted earlier this week (via The Hollywood Reporter), and a statement from her lawyer confirmed the news. According to Phillips’ lawyer, her main priority during this time remains her daughter, to which she notes Masterson has always been a good father to.

“Ms. Phillips has decided to file for divorce from her husband during this unfortunate time. Her priority remains with her daughter. This period has been unimaginably hard on the marriage and the family. Mr. Masterson was always present for Ms. Phillips during her most difficult times of her life. Ms. Phillips acknowledges that Mr. Masterson is a wonderful father to their daughter,” Phillips’ lawyer, Peter Lauzon, said to The Hollywood Reporter in a statement.

The actor was convicted and found guilty on two of three forcible rape charges earlier this year. Initially accused of raping three women at his Hollywood Hills home between 2001 and 2003, Masterson continues to maintain his innocence.

The news comes as somewhat of a surprise, as shortly after Masterson was sentenced, a source told People that Phillips planned to be by his side. Masterson and Phillips married in 2011, and had a daughter who was born in 2014.

Phillips is an actor herself, and the daughter of the late Mamas and the Papas frontman John Phillips. Bijou is perhaps best known for roles in Almost Famous, Bully, and Hostel: Part II.
