Sony has officially greenlit a Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel.

No details are official just yet on the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel, which was announced during CinemaCon. It’s currently unknown if director Jason Reitman will return, although it is likely. Of course, this shouldn’t come as a total surprise as Reitman previously stayed that his 2021 soft reboot “sets the table” for future films in the series and now he’ll get to do that.

In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, in hopes of starting a new life, a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town to move into a beaten-down farmhouse in Oklahoma that they’ve inherited from their grandfather. However, they soon discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

The film was led by Carrie Coon as Callie, Mckenna Grace as Phoebe, Finn Wolfhard as Trevor, and Paul Rudd as Mr. Grooberson. Joining them were original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts as they reprised their iconic roles as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, Dana Barrett, and Janine Melnitz, respectively.
