Another big star is set to join the cast of the upcoming sequel Beetlejuice 2, with The Hollywood Reporter noting that Willem Dafoe will be in the movie.

Who will Willem Dafoe play in Beetlejuice 2?

According to the report, Dafoe will play a law enforcement officer in the afterlife, although the exact details of his character are currently unknown. Most of the film’s plot is being kept close to the vest, with little known about the project at this time beyond the release date.

Dafoe will join a cast that’s quickly growing into a star-studded affair. Earlier this month, it was announced that Jenna Ortega would be starring in the film, with Michael Keaton reprising his role as Beetlejuice, while Winona Ryder will also return to play Ortega’s mother. Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci will also appear in the film.

Beetlejuice 2 will once again be directed by Tim Burton. This marks Burton’s feature directorial comeback after last helming Disney’s live-action Dumbo in 2019. The project has been in development for more than three decades now, with Burton initially planning to set the sequel in Hawaii.

Beetlejuice starred Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherin O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones, Alec Baldwin, and Geena Davis. The film centered around a deceased married couple who called on the services of the obnoxious and mischievous poltergeist from the Netherworld to scare away the new residents of their former home. Since its debut, it earned both critical and commercial success with a box office gross of over $73 million. Due to its success and pop culture influence, it went on to spawn an animated series, video games, and a stage musical.
