Weird stars Daniel Radcliffe, Evan Rachel Wood, and director Eric Appel discuss the Al Yankovic biopic

Biopics often provide audiences with a unique window into the lives of fascinating figures from all walks of life. However, little can prepare you for what awaits in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, a satire of a worn formula that offers something unique and strange for the genre. Eric Appel directs Daniel Radcliffe (“Weird Al” Yankovic), Evan Rachel Wood (Madonna), Rainn Wilson (Dr. Demento), and countless cameos for a twisted trip down memory lane. Few biopics are an extension of the subject at hand. However, in the case of Weird, the film gives new meaning to the concept of parody and keeps you laughing as it breaks all the rules.

We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Daniel Radcliffe, Evan Rachel Wood, and Eric Appel about the film and were delighted to learn more about their journey toward bringing the life and times of a legend to screens. During our time with Appel, we examine his creative process and the film’s evolution from a joke to a genuine crowd-pleaser. As for Radcliffe and Wood, the dynamic duo reveal their tricks for getting into character, the impact working on the film has had, and the weirdest traits they’ve adopted while filming.
