Peacock’s Twisted Metal series has gotten another star and one that many probably already associate with the desert and sand; fitting for a series set in the wasteland. Thomas Haden Church, most known for his role as Sandman in Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man: No Way Home, will be joining the series based on the video game franchise.

Church will be playing a character named Agent Stone. The official description describes him as a “cold and unyielding post-apocalyptic highway patrolman who rules the roads with a silver tongue and a twisted iron fist” and prosecutes even small crimes with big punishments. He’s also attempting to “bring law and order back to the Divided States of America, and will kill anyone in his path who defies his power.” While it doesn’t outright say it, it appears as though Church might be an antagonist in the series.

He is the third cast member to be official revealed. It was recently revealed that Brooklyn 99‘s Stephanie Beatriz was also going to be in the show as a character named Quiet. Anthony Mackie is set to lead as John Doe. However, unlike those two, Agent Stone is a character in the video games that first appeared in Twisted Metal Black.

The show is based on a concept from Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who will executive produce. It will be written by Cobra Kai scribe Michael Jonathan Smith, who will also serve as an EP. Other executive producers include PlayStation Studios’ Hermen Hulst, Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions, Inspire Entertainment’s Jason Spire, Electric Avenue’s Will Arnett and Marc Forman, and Peter Principato of Artists First. Bad Trip‘s Kitao Sakurai is also set to executive produce and direct a few episodes.

Sony is also allegedly creating another Twisted Metal game and it is likely being positioned to come out around the same time as the Peacock series. After reportedly changing developers, the game is said to be coming from Firesprite, a studio Sony recently acquired in September 2021. However, this game has yet to be formally revealed.

Twisted Metal is another one of Sony’s video game franchises making the jump to another medium. There’s a Ghost of Tsushima movie in the works and an HBO show based on The Last of Us, both of which are coming after February’s Uncharted movie.
