The 2014 horror film Tusk (watch it HERE) was meant to be the first installment in what writer/director Kevin Smith was calling his “True North Trilogy”, to be followed by Yoga Hosers – which did get made – and the killer moose movie Moose Jaws – which we’re still waiting for. But in late 2020, Smith said he had an idea for a Tusk 2 as well… and according to Tusk star Justin Long, it sounds like he’s ready to start pushing the sequel idea toward production.

Speaking with Slash Film, Long said,

You’ll be happy to hear, Kevin just announ– I mean, I guess they’re talking about it. They’re doing Tusk 2, I think. … He texted us all the other day, Haley [Joel Osment] and Genesis [Rodriguez], and he told us that he wanted to do it, and I thought it was a joke. And then I realized he was being serious. And then one of the [other] interviewers said, ‘Yeah, he said the same to me.’”

Described as “a chilling horror tale about the perils of storytelling”, Tusk also starred Michael Parks and the actors Long mentioned in that quote – Haley Joel Osment and Genesis Rodriguez. The film follows

a brash American podcaster as he braves the Canadian wilds to interview an old man with an incredible past-only to discover the man’s dark secret involves a walrus.

When Smith said he had an idea for Tusk 2 back in 2020, here’s how he described it:

I’ll be honest with you: I do have a story for Tusk 2. … The great Michael Parks, who played Howard Howe, the guy who turns Wallace into a walrus, sadly passed away a couple of years ago. … But, there’s a version of Tusk 2 that you do where you cut to the present, and somebody else gets sucked into the spider’s web. A house, come hear stories, and when you come to the house, the new Howard Howe is Wallace, who has gotten out of the walrus trappings and stuff and is obviously disturbed by his entire ordeal and is now doing it to others. So there’s a way to do Tusk 2 where Justin becomes Michael Parks’s character, or Wallace becomes the new Howard Howe and he’s doing this walrus thing to somebody else. … So yeah, that’s possible. Tusk 2 is possible.”

It is somewhat surprising to hear that Smith would want to make a Tusk 2 where Wallace has gotten out of the walrus suit and become a madman himself, because he has previously said that Moose Jaws would climax with a battle between walrus-Wallace and the killer moose. Maybe that plan has changed… or maybe Moose Jaws would serve as a prequel to Tusk 2. We’ll have to wait and see how it will play out.

In the meantime, we’re still anxiously waiting to hear when Smith’s horror anthology Killroy Was Here is going to be available to watch in any way other than NFTs or theatrical screenings, and Smith is about to spend some time on tour with Clerks III. Beyond that, he appears to be gearing up to make a movie called The 4:30 Movie, which would be set in 1986 and take place in a movie theatre.
