Tom Swift cancelled by The CW after one season

Deadline has reported that The CW has cancelled Tom Swift after just one season. The Nancy Drew spinoff launched just two months ago but it seems that the lacklustre ratings weren’t enough to keep the series afloat.

Although The CW was said to like the show, Tom Swift was one of their least-watched series on linear, with only “535K viewers in Live+7, as well as on streaming.” CBS Studios, the production company behind Tom Swift, are trying to extend the cast’s options as they look to find the series another home. Tian Richards played the title character and was first introduced in an episode of Nancy Drew. Here’s the official logline for Tom Swift:

Tom Swift follows the serialized adventures of the titular Black, gay, billionaire inventor, who is thrust into a world of sci-fi conspiracy and unexplained phenomena after the shocking disappearance of his father. Tom takes to the road on a quest to unravel the truth, leaving behind the comforts of his usual moneyed lifestyle, all while fighting to stay one step ahead of an Illuminati-scale group hell-bent on stopping him. Tom’s missions will require his genius and flair for innovation guided by love, romance, friendship and the mysteries of the universe yet-unsolved.

In addition to Tian Richards, Tom Swift also starred Ashleigh Murray, Marquise Vilson, April Parker-Jones, Albert Mwangi, and LeVar Burton. The rest of the series will continue to air on The CW, but it would seem we’ve seen the last of Tom Swift. The CW has cancelled quite a few shows this year, including Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, Legacies, Dynasty, Naomi, In the Dark, Charmed, 4400, and Roswell, New Mexico. Are there any fans of Tom Swift out there who are sad to learn that the series has been cancelled?
