MGM has finally unveiled the official trailer for George Miller’s epic fantasy film Three Thousand Years of Longing, starring Oscar winner Tilda Swinton and Golden Globe winner Idris Elba. The film recently had its world premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, and is scheduled to arrive in theaters this summer.

The video, which you can check out below alongside the key art, features a woman who suddenly finds herself in the presence of a Djinn. Because of her academic background, she’s reluctant to make a wish, as according to her, “there is no story about wishing that is not a cautionary tale.” Regardless, the Djinn tries to change her mind with stories about other wishes he previously granted for other people.

Three Thousands Years of Longing is directed by Mad Max filmmaker George Miller from a script he co-wrote with Augusta Gore, based on A.S. Byatt’s short story The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye. The film is led by Idris Elba (The Suicide Squad), and Tilda Swinton (Constantine). Joining them are Aamito Lagum, Burcu Gölgedar, and Matteo Bocelli.

“Dr. Alithea Binnie is an academic, content with life and a creature of reason,” reads the synopsis. “While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real, and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually, she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.”
