The Time Traveler's Wife, cancelled, HBO

Henry didn’t see this one coming. Or maybe he did. I don’t know how time travel works. Deadline has reported that HBO has cancelled The Time Traveler’s Wife after just one season.

Based on the novel by Audrey Niffenegger, The Time Traveler’s Wife told the “intricate and magical love story” of Clare Abshire and Henry DeTamble. Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones) starred as Clare, a woman who falls for a man with a genetic disorder which causes him to sporadically travel through time for short periods. Theo James (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf) played Henry, and the series also starred Desmin Borges (You’re the Worst) as Gomez, Michael Park (Stranger Things) as Philip, Jaime Ray Newman (The Punisher) as Lucille, Kate Siegel (Midnight Mass) as Annette, Josh Stamberg (WandaVision) as Richard, and more. The six-episode series was developed and written by Steven Moffat, best known for Doctor Who, and directed by David Nutter (The X-Files). In a statement to Deadline, an HBO spokeswoman said:

Though HBO will not be moving forward with a second season of The Time Traveler’s Wife, it was our privilege to partner with master storytellers Steven Moffat and David Nutter. We are so grateful for their passion, hard work and care for adapting this beloved book. We also thank Theo and Rose, and the rest of our brilliant cast for their heartfelt performances, which completely captivated audiences.

Steven Moffat previously told TVLine that he had intended for The Time Traveler’s Wife to run for multiple seasons. “I had a plan about how many seasons we’d do — not telling you! — and where each one would end and how far you’d take it,” Moffat said. “There is enough juice in the book for more than just one [season]. But at the same time, I would still call it a limited series because it can’t go on forever. It has to stop. We already know a fair bit about how it ends. By Episode 3, you know he’s going to get shot in a forest. You know he’s going to lose his feet at some point. So it’s a story of destiny, I guess. The end is built into the beginning. The Time Traveler’s Wife was previously adapted into a 2009 feature film starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana.

Are there any fans of The Time Traveler’s Wife sad to see the series get cancelled?
