The Good Fight, season 6, paramount plus, paramount+

The Good Fight will be taking on its final round of cases. It has been announced that the upcoming sixth season will be the last for the critically acclaimed series at Paramount+.

Per Deadline, season 6 is set to premiere on September 8, 2022, on the streaming platform and production is still underway as we speak in New York City. This will wrap up a 13-season run for the brand created by Robert and Michelle King, which began on the parent series The Good Wife, which aired on CBS for seven seasons, before transitioning to the spinoff, The Good Fight.

The Good Fight has never been shy about tackling real issues and this final season will continue to touch upon topical current events. The topic of Roe v. Wade will be explored as well as voting rights, and the return of Cold War aggression. The lawyers on the series will begin to wonder if we’re headed for another civil war. Here is what Robert King had to say about the stories coming up for the final season:

“What we thought that would be fun in a last season is there a déjà vu quality in returning to the greatest hits, not just Carrie Preston playing Elsbeth Tascioni and Alan Cumming playing Eli Gold but also some of the favorite hits of plot points. Maybe this sounds like we’re recycling but we want Diane to have a sense, haven’t I done this before? haven’t I done that before? That just felt like a way to be kind of meta and reflect what we thought was going on with liberals and progressives around in a sense that we thought these fights were done. And we were on a glide slope towards justice and Shangri -La basically. It’s comically too.”

The Good Fight helped launch CBS All Access which has since been rebranded as Parmount+. Beginning in 2017, the series is a spinoff and standalone sequel to The Good Wife and it follows Christine Baranski as Diane Lockhart. She loses her employment after an enormous financial scam destroys the reputation of her goddaughter Maia (Rose Leslie) and Diane’s life savings, which leads them to join Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) at one of Chicago’s preeminent law firms. The has been highly acclaimed by critics, never falling below 90% on Rotten Tomatoes across the five seasons that have already aired. In addition to Baranski, the series also stars John Slattery, Sarah Steele, Michael Boatman, Nyambi Nyambi, Charmaine Bingwa, Audra McDonald, and Andre Braugher. Rose Leslie and Cush Jumbo have since left the show but it is open for them to return in some capacity during the final season, as well as other original cast members like Delroy Lindo and actors from The Good Wife like Julianna Margulies and Josh Charles. Nothing is set in stone but both of the Kings said never say never.

Are YOU sad to see The Good Fight go?
