Boss Team Games and Saber Interactive’s Evil Dead: The Game has just received its biggest update yet, which features a bunch of balance changes and a new map ripped straight out of Army of Darkness. Players can now venture into Castle Kandar and see iconic landmarks from the film, including the Windmill, the Arthurian Outpost, Fort Gort, and the Castle Kandar Keep. With the update, players can fight off Deadites and skeleton warriors in a new way, and that’s just the start of the upgrades coming to this Bruce Campbell-approved online multiplayer horror game.

The Castle Kandar map is arriving alongside a few free and premium items. Lord Arthur, Henry the Red, and Evil Ash have each gotten a premium skin: the Battle Prep Outfit, Scottish Vibe Outfit, and Gilded Attire, respectively. While the human skins are self-explanatory or rather basic, Evil Ash’s Gilded Attire skin drapes him and his army in gold armor. They’re being sold together as a bundle for $7.99, but are free for season pass owners. Users can also now buy Ash’s S-Mart costume and Williams Gallant skin for $2.99 apiece. They were both already in the game but only for those who pre-ordered.

However, everyone can enjoy a pair of weapons from the past. A mace isn’t as good as a chainsaw, but it will get the job done, and the new explosive crossbow will get several jobs done at once. Both weapons match the new castle map thematically and make a big splash in the update’s official trailer.

Today’s patch also adds an Exploration Mode to Evil Dead: The Game, allowing players to explore the recreations of film locations without the continual threat of stabbing, biting, or decapitation. It’s a unique feature that not many games explore, but it’s perfect for a game like this that is packed with Easter eggs. The full patch notes detail all of these new features and changes, which range from quality-of-life tweaks to bug fixes to a ton of balance updates.

Evil Dead: The Game is a game in the vein of Dead by Daylight, teaming four mortals against one horror summoned by the Necronomicon. The game released this past May on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 and is one of several horror-themed outings banking on nostalgic film properties (like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed) and the popularity in the genre. The title is also coming to the Switch at some point in the future.
